Foam (Entrained air, Visible foam) Air that is present in papermaking stock or white water can cause various kinds of problems, including pin-holes, circular marks on the paper, reduced dewatering rates, unsightly foam, deposit problems related to foam buildup, and loss of solid material due to overflow of foam from tanks and chests.
Air-entrainment is a negative phenomenon in hydraulic intakes with a vertical pipe. Researchers sometimes chose to offset the pipe from the intake center to trigger the air-entrainment, while the underlying mechanism on the formation and propagation is not fully understood.

A possible separation in entrainment coefficients between air-water and steam-water systems was identified. A third entrainment model was adapted to match experimental conditions and fit a posteri to the experimental data, resulting in a modified version that resulted in estimated entrainment rates similar to the first model. Defoamer. A defoamer or an anti-foaming agent is a chemical additive that reduces and hinders the formation of foam in industrial process liquids. The terms anti-foam agent and defoamer are often used interchangeably. Strictly speaking, defoamers eliminate existing foam and anti-foamers prevent the formation of further foam.
